Precious Metals Charts Intraday

 

The Metals:

 

Gold fell $16.78 to $1224.52 by late morning in New York before it bounced back higher in afternoon trade, but it still ended with a loss of 1.26%.  Silver slipped to as low as $15.187 and ended with a loss of 0.78%.

 

Euro gold fell to about €1081, platinum lost $3 to $961, and copper fell a couple of cents to about $2.20.

 

Gold and silver equities fell roughly 3% in the first four hours of trade, but they then rallied back higher into the close and ended with less than 1% losses on the day.

Oil erased most of the day’s earlier gains after the Energy Information Administration reported that crude inventories rose 2.3 million barrels, gasoline inventories fell 2.5 million barrels, and distillates fell 1.1 million barrels.

 

The U.S. dollar index continued to fall on yesterday’s call for caution when it comes to raising interest rates.

 

Treasuries dropped as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P rose on continued easy monetary policy.

 

Among the big names making news in the market today were Valeant, MetLife, Wells Fargo, and GM.
