Gold gained $18.94 to $1226.44 by late morning in New York before it edged back lower in early afternoon trade, but it still ended with a gain of 1.45%. Silver rose to as high as $15.303 and ended with a gain of 0.66%.
Euro gold rose to about €1112, platinum gained $17 to $939.50, and copper fell slightly to about $2.11.
Gold and silver equities rose roughly 3% in the first 20 minutes of trade and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

The U.S. dollar index held near unchanged and treasuries rose as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P fell over 1% on renewed worries about the oil market.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Macy’s, Hugo Boss, BHP, Standard Chartered, Home Depot, Time, and JPMorgan.
